We use Google Analytics only if you choose “Allow analytics”. The site works normally if you say no.
Who is responsible
The operator of Guitar Bottleneck is responsible for the optional analytics described in this policy. For privacy questions or requests, email [email protected].
What analytics is for
Analytics helps us understand which guides people find useful, how visitors move through the directory, and where the site could be made clearer or faster. We do not use it to create advertising profiles, and we do not send an account or user ID to Google Analytics.
What may be collected
If you opt in, Google Analytics may receive details such as the page viewed, page title, referring page, browser and device information, approximate location, and engagement events. Google says IP addresses from UK and EU visitors are used for location information and then discarded before they are logged. Read Google’s UK and EU data-processing explanation.
Cookies and local storage
If you allow analytics, Google Analytics may set _ga and_ga_<container-id> first-party cookies. Google lists their default expiry as two years. We also use your browser’s local storage to remember your colour theme and whether you allowed or declined analytics. Those preferences stay on your device.
How long analytics data is kept
This site’s Google Analytics property is configured to retain event data for 2 months and user data for 14 months. The user-data retention period resets when a user has new activity. These are the current property settings and may be reviewed if our analytics needs change.
Your choice
Our lawful basis for optional analytics is your consent. The Google tag is not downloaded and no analytics data is sent before you actively allow it. Choosing “No analytics” does not restrict the site. You can reopen the consent choices at any time using “Cookie settings” in the footer. If you withdraw consent, we stop loading the tag and remove the Google Analytics cookies we can access from this site.
Processing and your rights
Google may process analytics data on systems outside the UK. Google describes the contractual and technical safeguards it uses in its Analytics documentation. Depending on the circumstances, UK data protection law may give you rights over your personal data, including access, correction, erasure, restriction and objection.
